But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. (John 1:12–13 NLT)
In Isaiah 9:6, we are promised the presence of our everlasting Father. Much of what we experience is fleeting and conditional. Success can fade. Relationships can feel fragile. Status and security can be short-lived. It’s hard to wrap our minds around something truly everlasting. Thankfully, the thing we most need to be unending—the love and protection of our heavenly Father—is exactly that.
The arrival of Jesus provided an opportunity for us to have a relationship with our everlasting Father. He cares for us when we so desperately need someone to care. He listens with pleasure when we tell him our greatest hopes, and he plants new dreams in us. He bends down to whisper, “I’ve got you,” when we feel afraid and insecure.
We never grow out of our need for and dependence on God. His provision and protection over us have been there from the beginning, and they are without end. He is our Father forever.
My everlasting Father, thank you for being everything I need. Thank you for caring for me so deeply and giving your Son so that I could have a relationship with you. Help me to live with confidence in your love for me. This week, please show me more of what it means to be a child of God.
